To my exercisers...

I was talking to a client the other day after she got the results of her DEXA scan.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, a DEXA scan is a body scan that shows your body’s composition: body fat, bone density, muscle mass, etc.

(In my opinion, it’s a far better tool than a scale to help gauge your fitness goals.)

When she got her results, she was surprised to see that her body fat was far higher than she expected.

As a lifelong exerciser, she was feeling at a loss for what to do.

You see, she had the misconception that she had to always get in a killer sweat session with a ton of cardio to get weight loss results.

Untrue. Especially as we age.

Part of fat loss is keeping your metabolism and hormones in balance.

Exercise is a stressor to the body. When you already have a high-stress life, adding more stress (thru exercise) isn’t always the answer.

If this feels like you, let me give you 3 places to start.

  1. Focus on sleep. Get 7-9 hours a night. Lack of sleep can throw hormones out of balance. This translates into increased hunger and slower metabolism, leading to a greater increase in weight.

  2. Walk outside. Walking reduces stress, depression, and anxiety. Plus it improves mood and is good for your bones, muscles, cholesterol levels, etc.

  3. Strength train. Lifting weights improves metabolism, decreases belly fat, improves confidence, plus so much more.

If you’re already exercising, you likely don’t need to do more if you’re trying to lose body fat.

You likely just need to do something different if you’re not seeing results.

And if you want a plan that is customized for you, reach out, I can help!
