The Cronut and the Bloomin Onion

I am absolutely infatuated with the Cronut.

Whenever I am in NYC, I stop by the famous Dominque Ansel bakery, stand in line, and get my allotted 2 cronuts.

I have no idea how many calories they are…probably a thousand! But I could care less.

Because they are worth it!

I can’t say the same for the Bloomin Onion at Outback Steakhouse.

Same thousand calories, not nearly the same enjoyment.

While you know I don’t count calories and I don’t have my clients do it either, I think it’s important to assign some value to “junk foods.”

If you want to have a fit body, you want about 80% (give or take) of your caloric intake to be from whole foods like veggies, lean protein, whole grains, legumes, etc.

The other 20% is the dessert, booze and fried foods you love that provide the mental satisfaction necessary to eat the other 80%.

So be choosy!

It’s not about not indulging. Or only indulging in things at a certain calorie load.

It’s about being judicious about what you choose.

If you’re gonna drop half your daily caloric load on an item or a meal, you better damn well love it. And if you don’t, skip it.

If you do love it, take the time to savor it!!

Slow down, notice the mouthfeel, and pause to enjoy the full flavors. Maximize the satisfaction from the food.

My most satisfied eaters tend to eat less food.

So take a look at your eating and see where you are eating junk food when it’s not even food you love. Share with me how you might change that!

I’ll be happy to recommend some changes if you’re stuck on what to do ne
