Road trips and cocktail bars

Is anyone else craving some structure after the holidays?!

While I love all the holiday festivities, I hate when I brush off too many of my daily habits. Which is exactly what I’ve done over the last couple of weeks.

Matt and I have an annual tradition of making a road trip the week before Christmas. It’s a perfect time to travel because hotels and restaurants aren’t busy that week and it’s much easier to have last-minute experiences.

This year was more indulgent than most.

Over the course of about 2 weeks, we did a food tour of Philadelphia, did wine tasting in Lehigh Valley, had an 8-course chef-tasting menu with wine pairing, went to 3 craft cocktail bars, tried 3 different donut shops, and ate at a James Beard award-winning chef’s restaurant.

Yeah, we went BIG.

Do I physically feel a little crappy after all that eating and drinking? You betcha!

But here’s what I’m not doing: wondering why I felt the need to eat and drink my face off.

Who cares?!

I did and there’s no time machine to undo my choices.

And spending time wondering why I made *that many* choices that don’t align with my health/fitness goals is really just code for asking myself why I suck. And no good comes from that!

The only thing I can do is decide what choices I want to make in the here and now. To make decisions that the future me will be grateful that I did.

We spend way too much time beating ourselves up for things we can’t change. Instead of trying to figure out how we can make choices we’re proud of.

So do yourself a favor as you're considering your weight loss/fitness goals for 2023, forget all the times you made choices you didn’t love. Instead, focus your energy on figuring out how making choices you’ll be proud of can be easier.
