This one tweak will open up possibility

The first year I launched my coaching business I made $3,757. I paid a business coach $3,497 to help me.

I remember feeling panicked when I looked at those numbers! I was telling myself I was a total failure. Telling myself:

    • I was never going to be able to leave my primary job with those numbers

    • I should be growing faster

    • I was doing something wrong.

What I wasn’t looking at was what I was doing right.

    • I wasn’t asking myself how I brought in the 7 clients I got.

    • I wasn’t spending any time celebrating what I had learned and had accomplished.

Focusing my energy on my failings was stopping me from growing.

It’s tempting to think that reminding ourselves where we are screwing up will keep us from making the same mistakes.

But it doesn’t. It just makes you feel terrible about yourself. When you don’t believe in yourself - or your ability to learn - you shy away from creating the life you desire.

You see, there are always 2 sides to every “truth.” You can spend your energy focusing on what’s wrong do or you can spend your time focusing on what’s right. They are both equally true!

For example, you can spend time telling yourself that you don’t have enough time to cook a healthy dinner. Or you can tell yourself that you can still make good decisions when you have to pick up take-out.

One thought is useful, the other is not.

One thought will have you grabbing garbage food (instead of making any effort), the other will have you looking for grilled chicken instead of a hamburger when you need to eat fast food.

I invite you to change your narrative this week.

Notice where you are arguing for your limitations instead of creating possibility. Notice where you are only telling yourself one side of the story.

Instead, tell yourself both sides. You don’t have to get rid of the negative, just give the positive side as much airtime and see what happens!

Write me back and tell me what you notice!
